Safety Guidelines

Version 2026-10-draft-4

If the wording changes in any important way, we'll let you know and ask you to accept it again.

Playing safely

Tennis and pickleball are physical activities and carry a risk of injury, including strains, falls, and impact from balls or racquets. Play within your fitness, warm up, stay hydrated, wear suitable shoes, and stop if you feel unwell. Get medical advice if you are unsure.

You play at your own risk. Sections 8 and 9 of the Terms of Use (Assumption of risk, and Hold harmless) apply to all activities arranged through VellaCourt, to the maximum extent the law allows. Nothing here removes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Weather and heat

Don't play during lightning or extreme heat, or on wet, slippery courts. Follow venue and Tennis Australia heat guidance.

Meeting people

Meet at public courts, tell someone where you're going, and keep messages on VellaCourt. Coaches show a Verified badge only after our staff check. Verification is limited to the checks we describe and doesn't guarantee conduct. Coaches working with children must hold any Working with Children Check that the law requires.

Emergencies

Call 000 in an emergency. Report safety concerns to us using Report.
